Verb patterns are the combination of a verb plus another verb, which can adopt the form of an infinitive, or an -ing form. In addition, there can be an object in the middle. Some verbs can combine with both infinitive and -ing (sometimes there's a change in meaning and some other times it makes no difference).
To practise this important grammar content, I propose two activities:
From an advanced grammar book, read the comprehensive explanation of verb patterns usage (skip page 1, listening in context) and do some of the exercises. NOTE: I'm sorry that some of the pages have the right margin cut off. It only affects a few pages but I think you can still do the activities there using your imagination)
The BBC Learning English website has a section called Grammar Challenge, which, like all the materials they publish, is excellent. The context is warnings, commands, invitations, encouragement. There are 2 quizzes on the left column and an explanation of how to use the grammar.
